CAIT today demanded to an extension of the deadline for file the final sales returns under the GST regime till month end on the GSTN portal.
The deadline for file the return GSTR-1 for July to November 2017 will end tomorrow. Where FM had extended the deadline for entering GSTR-01 from December 31st to 10th January last month.
GSTN sources, however, dismissed the charge that GST portal is not working.
The Confederation of All India Traders (CAIT)claimed in a statement that the “GST portal remain hanged most of the time” today which made the filing of return difficult for businesses.
“In view of the same, the CAIT has demanded FM Arun Jaitley to extend the date of filing of returns to at least January 30 and in the meantime has also demanded a thorough technology audit of the portal and ensure its normal functioning,” it said.
Sources said that the due date for filing GSTR-1 is not likely to be extended ahead of tomorrow.
The Goods and Services Tax Network (GSTN) is providing the backbone technology for the implementation of the new indirect tax regime. GST, which is more than a dozen local taxes, and has been converted into a single market, started from July 2017.
Enter business turnover up to Rs 1.5 crores have to file GSTR-1 for July-September by tomorrow.
For those people with a turnover of more than Rs 1.5 crore, GSTR-01 for the months from July to November has to be registered/filled by January 10.
GST Council November last year allowed the business to make up to 1.5 crore rupees for filling the last return of GST-1 quarterly.
