Ujjain: Minister of Petroleum and Natural Gas Dharmendra Pradhan said today that our effort is to bring Petrol and diesel under GST. It will soon be possible between the Center and the States.
Referring to the media, Pradhan said, “We are trying to make petrol, diesel, and kerosene also under GST and hopefully GST Council will get the consent soon.”
Arun Jaitley, Finance Minister previously speaks that petroleum products have not been kept out and were a part of the GST legislation but the decision to levy GST on these products can be taken only after the GST Council clears it with 75 % or three-fourths majority.
The GST Council headed by the Union FM is the representative of all the states. On the question of rising prices of petrol, he said that when prices of petrol rise in the international market, then the prices of petrol are increased and the state governments, according to them, impose the tax on the cost of petrol.
The petroleum minister said, “42 percent of the central tax comes from the states and states have their own tax system. A large part of the tax collection coming from the states is used. He said that funds are required to implement various welfare projects in the country. Do not you think we should build good roads, do not you think we should give clean drinking water to the citizens? Look at the Government of India’s borrower. Earlier, the government spent 70,000 per unit on the housing scheme of the poor and is now spending 1.5 lakh rupees.
The GST Council may soon bring in another change in the tax rate list by including power, real estate, and petroleum products under the unified tax ambit.
